I swear this has got to be the book I like the most written by Abby McCarthy. It is a standalone, but we did get to see Mickey in Abby's Wrecked Series as a member of The Devil's Crusaders MC. We know a little bit about him, so of course, for me, this story was just sitting in a corner ready to be told.
As I have said so many times about Abby's books, her stories tend to break me, before they make me really happy. Is really amazing to finally see the amazing man Mickey is. From Maura's story, we knew he was a great dad, but this book takes us back with a lot more detail to see how Maura was raised and really see how he is able all the barriers that Talon, Marie's daughter, tries to build for him.
Marie is a fighter, a woman that is ready to finally slay her monsters and have a second take at life, like all abused women, Marie is afraid to end up with a person like her husband once again. This things she is running from play against Mickey up to some point. Now is up to Mickey to keep her walls down, solve the problems that have arisen for his MC and get the name of the man that scared Marie so badly, all while keeping her and her daughter safe.
I loved Mickey before but, now is that he is going for the happiness he deserves is amazing to see him fighting for what he wants and loves. I think this characters, even though some are new are really trying to make everything work for the best in their favor. This book is an amazing story that really needed to be told, and Abby McCarthy definitely did justice to this characters. It is a must-read, a story that no one should miss.
