Mary Clayton believed in the promises made by her charming late husband. She believed he’d love, protect, honor and cherish her. Instead, he stole her fortune and repeatedly hurt her, leaving her in poverty when he died.

Mary spent years battling her way back into the life she inherited from her family and has made it a rule to trust no man. But sometimes the heart ignores the rules…especially in the case of handsome widower Fredrick Krause and his tempting holiday promise of a sweet happily ever after.

But can Mary let go of her fear and learn to love again? If she can’t, she may well lose the only man who has ever truly made her feel safe and loved.

EXCERPT:
The door swung open to a tall, strong, imposing man who looked like he could lift a cow over his head without a problem. “Hello,” he said in a deep, booming voice with a thick German accent. His blue eyes, the kind that sparkled in light like a jewel, settled my nerves.

“I, um, brought a gift to welcome you to our area.” I glanced down at my basket. “Perhaps I could give it to your wife.”

“No wife. She died.” Those four words hooked my sensibility and tossed it over the chimney outside.

After a breath, I corralled my racing thoughts and settled on the appropriate answer. “I’m so sorry for your loss.”

He bowed his head, and his bottom lip thinned and pulled back toward his cheeks. “Yes, I am also.”

An awkward silence settled between us. That’s when I caught a whiff of something divine. The aroma of fresh baked apple pie if I wasn’t mistaken.

“Papa?” a young woman’s voice called from behind him. She slid around his arms and popped up with a winning smile. A woman of strength, beauty with her strong shoulders but delicate waist. “Are you the lady of the house over there?” She pointed toward my son’s ranch.

I nodded. “Yes, I’m Mary Clayton. I live with my son Jeb.” Not sure why I’d added that, as if I had to clarify what lady of the house meant in my circumstance.

“Really?” The girl lit up like the north star on a clear night.

“Yes.”

“Forgive me. I’m Agatha, and this is my papa, Fredrick Krause.” She pointed at the giant next to her.

“Call me Fredrick,” he said in clipped, thick words.

“Is that for us? Papa, why don’t you invite Mary Clayton inside our home. Introduce her to Aunt Helga.”

I glanced past them both through the sliver between Fredrick’s trunk-sized arms and broad chest. At the table I spotted dinner. “I am so sorry to have intruded at this hour. I guess being alone in that big house has taken my manners. Here.” I shoved the basket into Agatha’s arms, curtsied like a schoolgirl, and raced away. I wasn’t sure if it was the fact that I’d met the first man since my husband who made me lose myself and my words or the fact that I was out of practice of speaking to people, but I couldn’t stay another second. I fled with a backhanded wave, ignoring their pleas for me to stay. If there was one thing I’d realized, it was that being alone was the one and only thing I’d learned to be good at. It was my talent.

EXCERPT REVEAL:

There’s dirt embedded under my nails. My skin is coated in sweat and my clothes are filthy. I’ve slept very little while cracking the code of the southern cartel and Jordan’s family. I’ve found the people he’s crossed and am building a master plan to bring down all of his loved ones.

Emerald eyes and swirling raven hair haunt my sleep when it comes. Rose. Her slender arm sliding through my grasp and me not being able to save her will always and forever be my demon. Hell, I don’t know her from a stranger on the street. All I do know is she’s being held against her will.

It doesn’t go unnoticed that I gave J.J. hell for years for being a saver, and here I sit in a cockroach-infested hotel in Mexico, risking my life for a woman I don’t even know. It’s so much more than that…I hunger to save them all, rid the world of evil, and I won’t stop until it’s done. Whether my heart is beating or dead, I will get the job done.

The woman between my legs bobs her head up and down my hard dick. I grasp the back of her head, guiding her up and down, waiting for my enemies to bust in. It’s an intoxicating sensation: the anticipation, the exhilaration of passion, and the immediate danger looming all around me.

The door to the stale hotel room swings open, clanging off the wall and leaving a hole in the cheap plaster where the doorknob careened into it. Five gun barrels face me, coupled with words firing in every direction in Spanish. I take a sip of my whiskey neat with my free hand and smile back at the slimy bastards.

“Game on, fuckers.”

EXCERPT REVEAL - LOVE ON THE RANCH BY CIARA KNIGHT

Love on the Ranch by Ciara Knight releases October 16th!

Add it to your TBR TODAY: http://www.bit.ly/LoveOnTheRanchTBR

Elizabeth McKinnie will no longer accept men ruling her life. After the Civil War devastated her family home and having no way to survive, Elizabeth accepts one of the mail-order bride proposals presented to her and her sisters. She chooses a man who promises to treat her as an equal. Her sister convinces her to switch suitors, proclaiming the weather in Texas would be more suitable for Elizabeth’s weak lungs. Agreeing, she heads west to meet the mysterious cattle baron she knows little about.

Jeb Clayton grew up as a poor son of a drunkard. He has worked his entire life to ensure he never starves again. He is a man who understands cows better than women, especially after watching the fairer sex manipulate his father into an early grave. Still, he begrudgingly agrees to marry a sturdy bride to produce sons who can help build his ranch into an empire. Yet, what he sees getting off the stagecoach is a whisper-of-a-woman with undesirable birthing hips.

When Elizabeth’s and Jeb’s futures are threatened will they join forces, or will their bitterness be their end?

EXCERPT REVEAL

Susan rolled Elizabeth’s head from Jeb’s shoulder and patted her cheeks. “Wake up, dear.” She smacked her harder. “Wake up.”

Adrenaline pumped through Jeb. If there was one thing he couldn’t witness, it was a woman in trouble. It did things to him he didn’t like.

Charles pounded on the wall behind him and the horses slowed.

“Elizabeth?” He turned to her and found her lips blue and her eyes rolled back in her head. His muscles tightened, his gut twisted.

The stagecoach rolled to a stop and the man on the end opened the door and everyone spilled out of the carriage. Jeb lifted Elizabeth and handed her off to the man that had been at her other side.

By the time Jeb reached the ground, Susan was on her knees at Elizabeth’s side, and everyone stood around, looking down at her gasping for air.

He found himself matching her breath for breath. “Anyone know what’s wrong?”

“No, she was fine the entire way here. Until you boarded the stagecoach,” Susan said with clipped speech.

Charles put his hand on his wife’s shoulder. “I doubt it’s him, dear.”

She shot a sideways glance of disapproval at Jeb.

“What else? Anything else change at the stop? Perhaps she ate something that she had a problem with?”

“Dress.” Susan looked up at him. “Her dress. She changed it. Maybe the corset is too tight. We could—”

He didn’t waste any time. If there was one thing he’d learned raising cattle, time meant everything. The faster you worked, the better the outcome. He slid his knife from its holder, rolled Elizabeth onto her side, slid the knife carefully under the neck of the material, and sliced down. Then he cut the string and yanked the corset loose.

After a second, she gasped for air and coughed. He rolled her over and saw the color in her lips and face returning.

“You’ll be fine now.” He stroked her cheek with the back of his knuckles and found her skin softer than any horse mane he’d ever touched.

Jeb watched as Elizabeth’s green eyes blinked and focused on him. “What happened?”

Susan huffed behind him. “You are an animal.”

Jeb looked up at her. “What are you talking about? I saved her life. That stupid-looking, impractical dress nearly choked her to death.”

“My dress?” Elizabeth said in only a whisper. She blinked, then her eyebrows pulled tight toward the center. “What did you do to my dress?” She shrieked and shot up but swooned again. With a hand to her head, she took a moment, then reached around her back. “Oh, my dear lord, what have you done!”

Charles cleared his throat. “I think he did what he thought was best to save your life.”

Susan glowered at her husband, and he shut his mouth. The man was controlled by a woman. That was never going to happen to Jeb. Ever.

EXCERPT REVEAL - LUCY'S LULLABY BY LEAONA LUXX

LUCI'S LULLABY by Leaona Luxx releases October 4th!

Add it to your TBR- http://www.bit.ly/LucisLullabyTBR

You know that old saying… He’s the next big thing.

Yeah, that was me. I was a rising star, and I couldn’t have been happier.

Fame, money, women at every turn. I had it all, until the day my world came crashing down.

I never fathomed this would be my life.

But here I am, a single dad at twenty-eight and I have no clue what I’m doing.

I pray every day I’m giving her the best life, 'cause it’s the only one I know.

The minute I lost everything and had nothing left to give.

Charlee showed up.

She restored my faith and gave us so much more than I ever deserved.

So can you tell me why I’m sitting here alone?

Every single day that goes by without them, I lose more of myself.

It’s hard to imagine a world they’re not part of.

So I pick up my old guitar and tell them both how I feel.

Turns out, lullabies aren’t just for children.

EXCERPT REVEAL:

I take another minute to myself as the warm water runs over my shoulders and down my chest. Honestly, I’m simply trying to waste enough time for the girl in my bed to leave.

Turning the water off, I reach for a towel, only to be met with long, red nails. I pull the curtain back to a naked body that doesn’t include mine.

“Mornin’.” I wrap myself in the cloth and step from the tub.

She crowds me as I try to reach for my toothbrush. “If I had known you were showering, I could’ve joined you.”

“It’s a small space.”

She brushes her breast against me as she moves closer. “We’ve been in tighter situations.”

“Yeah…” Before I can offend her, I’m saved. The front door opens and closes with a slam. Followed by the voice of a saint.

“Hey, baby. Where are you?”

The redhead on my left turns a deep crimson. “You’re married?”

I shrug. “I’m in here, honey.”

“How dare you!” She snaps, grabbing my shirt from the floor and dragging it over her head. “Let me out.”

“No problem.” I step to the side as she swings the door wide and runs into the other redhead in the hall. Her mouth hangs as she stares at her before turning to me. “I look just like her!”

“Not really.” I smirk.

“I am so sorry, he never said he was married.” She stumbles through to my room, yanking her clothes on.

“I’m Reese. You are?” She crosses her arms with a smug look.

The redhead in the bedroom gapes at me when I don’t answer. “Aren’t you gonna tell her my name?”

“I would…if I could remember it.”

Her face flames as I struggle not to giggle. “You are disgusting.”

“Yes, you are.” Reese place her fists on her side, playing along. My body jerks as I fight laughing in her face.

“For the record, you’ve lost a fan.” She storms past us.

I jog after her. “Michelle, wait.” She turns to me, glaring. “See, I know your name.”

“What’s the point now?” She fumes.

“I was just wondering, are you still my number one fan?” Reese bursts into a fit of giggles as I watch Michelle’s eyes as she plots my death.

“Fuck you!” She slams the door against the wall as she rushes out it.

“Dear Lord, will you ever learn?” Reese joins me as I walk into the kitchen.

SNEAK PEEK
Another streak of lightning flashed across the sky. The storm was getting worse. There was no way I’d be able to fly home tonight. Air traffic control would never clear us with the stalled front coming in.
Now or never.
I opened the car door and walked up the pathway that led straight to the front door. The heavy rain quickly soaked through my jeans. I’d found a raincoat on the plane, but it did little to keep me dry. The wind was whipping the water around every which way. Once I got to the door, the covered porch helped shelter me some.
I took a deep breath and then knocked three times.
Stay calm. Whatever happens, at least you’ll know.
The door opened, and warm light spilled out into the darkness. My word, she’s beautiful. There she stood in her jeans and light pink T-shirt with her blonde hair pulled up into a bun on the top of her head. It was hard not to pull her to me and kiss the life out of her.
Her startled eyes met mine. She’d been crying. Seeing her red, blotchy eyes and tear-streaked cheeks slayed me. My fists clenched, and I reminded myself not to rush this. Kory’s lip quivered. Only a couple of feet separated us, but they felt like the width of a canyon.
I began to speak, but she beat me to it, her voice sounding sadder than I remembered. “Hayden, what are you doing here?”
Shit. Thunder roared through the skies and my heart plummeted. That wasn’t the reaction I was hoping for.
Unsure how to respond, I blurted out the first thing that came to mind. “Why did you leave?”
There were a million other things I wanted to ask, like why she was upset, but her question threw me. If things were over, I wasn’t going to put myself out there even more.
She looked around outside before pulling me in the house. I stumbled at the sudden movement but caught myself. The door slammed shut, and in the next moment, Kory threw her arms around me, holding me as if her life depended on it. Without another thought, I wound my arms around her, inhaling her sweet vanilla scent. This was the greeting I had hoped for.
This felt right.
Kory let out a sniffle before saying, “You came for me. You actually came. When I needed you the most, you came.”
I held her tighter. “I’m sorry it took so long. The way things happened with us and how you left did a number on my head.”
She pulled back, and fresh tears filled her eyes. “You have to go back to Alaska and forget you ever met me. You can’t be here.”

PRE-ORDER: AMAZON US | AMAZON UNIVERSAL

EXCERPT REVEAL

“C’use me, sir. We ain’t buying.” Whit’s sweet voice drifts in through the kitchen window.
I brush my hands off on the delicately embroidered tea towel and peer out the window. My heart ceases to beat. The man who crushed me waltzes up the cracked sidewalk. No. No. No. I thought I’d have more time.
Jessie’s deep, familiar chuckle echoes in the country breeze. He rakes his hand through his hair. He’s aged to perfection. Now a sculpted, tight beard frames his face; the same scar runs through his right eyebrow; his olive skin tone still mesmerizes me.
Jessie tucks his hands in his pockets and dips his chin for a brief moment before responding. “Here to see Jane. Told her I’d come by to change water and mow.”
Whit dances right up to Jessie. She covers her eyes, shading them from the sun, one hand on her hip.
“What’s your name, mister?”
“Jessie.” He nods.
She promptly sticks out her hand. “Hi, I’m Whit Jane Jones.”
Jessie freezes. Long moments float by before he clears his throat and extends his hand. His eyes flare wide as their hands connect.
“Nice to meet you,” she chirps.
Jessie doesn’t respond or drop her hand.
“You’re ’pose to say, ‘Nice to meet you, too, Whit Jane Jones.’ It’s the polite thing to do.” She dances in place, growing impatient.
Jessie’s voice cracks with emotion as he slowly speaks each word. “Nice to meet you, too, Whit Jane Jones.”

EXCERPT REVEAL
We started over twice in two months, and I was determined to do it again. I heard the shower turn off in her bathroom, happy she could function while horrified at my neglect. I’m going to fix this. I’m going to marry her. I’m going to keep her as I promised. I jumped from my bed, the destructive and hopeless thoughts shrouded beneath the need for Aideen’s skin against mine. I was met with billowing steam in the hallway before I even reached the bathroom door. Everything ached for her, twitching restlessly with a need to consume her, to apologize and make us whole again. I tapped once on the door, her silence burning my ears. I struggled to breathe when she unlatched it, the steam inviting me in with Aideen’s permission.

She stood in front of the sink, staring at the foggy mirror with her knuckles whitening against the countertop. I lingered in the doorway, watching as her silhouette hardened every last piece of me. I approached Aideen from behind, my hands quivering with desperation to touch her, and she spun to face me.

The tie of her robe slipped through my fingers, separating the layers of fabric to reveal an intoxicating hint of her skin. I held her gaze tentatively, waiting for her permission. My skin throbbed in anticipation, rewarded only by the small trail of her flickering gaze that traveled between my eyes and stomach. It was her yes and my undoing.

EXCERPT REVEAL - VENGEANCE BY KATHY COOPMANS

VENGEANCE by USA Today Bestselling Author Kathy Coopmans is LIVE on KU!

PURCHASE TODAY: AMAZON US | AMAZON UK | AMAZON CA

I often wondered if Vengeance came with a price. I never cared, not after the torture I've endured.

For me, Vengeance is best served through the eyes of my scope. The twitch of my finger. The pull of a trigger.

The death of someone who deserves to die.

Revenge, retribution, and retaliation are all that comes to mind.

Cruel and brutal punishment for the hell inflicted on my family is all I’ve ever been able to think about.

The betrayal fresh in mind years later, reminding me of the day my world came crashing down.

I lost everything.

The woman I loved.

My sister.

My parents.

Myself.

You know what else I say about Vengeance?

It’s best served frozen.

No side dish of compassion. No extra helping of warning.

No dessert called a second chance.

The price I want for it.

Is written in blood.

KINDLE UNLIMITED: AMAZON US | AMAZON UK | AMAZON CA

EXCERPT REVEAL
“You going to tell me what that bullshit was that went down in there a few days ago or you still think that whiskey is going to make this all go away? Because it sure sounded like you were pretending to be your brother.” Chaz is angry. Good. That makes two of us. Three if you include Nick who, after days of trying to find out who drugged Ivy is coming up with nothing. Ironic as hell that the one night someone dares to harm her, the security cameras at BURN had been disabled. Every fucking one of them.

I knew I should have gotten out of the chair and had him go in there when she started to stir, and like the torturer I am, I sat there listening to every pain laced word filter out of her mouth. Her words slamming deep into my soul, ripping me apart. Since then, I’ve been stewing in my own misery. All kinds of guilt and anger weighing me down.

I went along with her thinking I was him while listening to the hell he put her through all over again. Nearly jumped out of the chair to let her see me, begging to be her savior when she made a comment about my knife. Her suffering became its own ghost that will plague me the rest of my life.

Guilt cutting me so deep it had my insides spiraling with a crazy out of control need to remind Ivy what we had. The problem is, was, always will be I’m too fucked up. A man full of evil when everything about her is good.

“She’s not ready to see me yet,” I exhale. Been pacing the floor outside my bedroom, refusing the urge to go into my study and watch her yet again on my security cameras while Doctor Hanson’s daughter, Ellie, takes care of an irate Ivy. The woman screaming and hollering my brother's name, asking her if she’s one of his whores all the while mixing it in with demanding answers. Answers I can’t quite give her yet. Not until I rein my shit in.

“I know. You could have at least let me talk to her. Took a big risk by doing that.” Right, and miss having to hear only what I’m sure was a touch on all the shit Drew did. Can’t choke any of it down. “Yeah, well, I’ve been taking risks ever since the first bullet I shot off splattered brains all over the place. On top of her not knowing I’m alive, I had to see how brainwashed he has her. She didn’t even move her head when I told her not to look at me. Part of it was due to the fact she hates him; other was she does what he says. Scared to death of the man. I would never have guessed the woman I used to know would surrender that easily. She was feisty, full of life. A willingly submissive woman she was not.” Not my girl. Everything she did was done because she wanted to do it.

I heard and felt the spice she used to shake around whenever she was angry wanting to pour out of her. Pretty sure the remaining drugs, the confusion of where she is, and why, held most of it back. That, plus, she’s frightened.

Hearing her speak the way she did. Expecting to be tortured, made to do things forcefully alienated me. Left me reeling about what needed to be done. Made up my mind the second I walked through that bedroom door closing, her cries behind me, it was time to make a call I never intended to make.
